Are there things I hate about Orange is the New Black? Yes, but I avoid talking because what I like and love about the show is much more important and has a much greater impact. Here I will talk in a professional way mainly about scenes and characters that I would have done differently. Look, when we talk about non-scientific content, everyone can have ideas and all of them are valid. The fact is that talking about possibilities only gives more strength to the series, the engagement is greater. Currently I see a lot of people giving up talking about OITNB, both fans, team and cast. I don’t think the fact that you want your life to take another direction makes it impossible to talk about your story. Quite the contrary, your story just throws you from the present to the future.
Let’s start? I didn’t make my list in chronological order or by degree of importance. My goal is only to reach 10!
Guys, I don’t like the Larry Bloom character. He has a weak, childish character and rarely contributes anything to the narrative that brings us any kind of curiosity. His only function is to be a counterpoint to Alex Vause. But I find it so weak that at no time I can imagine a slight chance of success with Piper Chapman. When I read the book about the real story of Piper Kerman I was startled. The real Larry is a nice guy in every way, the fictional Larry is caricature, exaggerated. It baffled me when at some point I read about the possibility of a spin-off with Larry. No way, sorry.
The finale of the third season of Orange is the New Black has one of the most memorable scenes of the entire series. It is extremely liberating to see them playing in the water. Everything would be beautiful if it wasn’t for the chosen soundtrack. Don’t add any kind of emotion. If you’re a fan of Orange you know that the soundtrack is wonderful, of incredible good taste, but in this epic moment of the plot, it left a lot to be desired.
They killed Poussey, the only character who has never been shown his bad side. Of course everyone was touched by the scene, it was one of the most emotional of all 7 seasons. I was so outraged that I considered not watching the series anymore. We fall into a trap as spectators. But writers like this, to turn the story around. I agree, but…
Orange has a huge and wonderful cast. But sometimes I think that if I didn’t have so many characters they could delve deeper into some important plots that were left open or that were extremely interesting. The spin-off could inaugurate this new stage. Anyone who watches OITNB and likes it, needs to see it more than once to memorize all the stories. It’s an exercise!
The guards are all mean! We have no compassion for any. There are some I’m really terrified of like Piscatella and Hellman. The guards we could somehow sympathize with, we don’t know their history. The writers’ choice was: The audience can’t like any guard! I think it’s an exaggeration, the character killed at the end of season four could have been a nice guard! It would have been a nice turn in the story too.
It bothered me the way some characters end up. If we are going to count, we have more question marks than exclamation marks. This is justified if we have a Spin-off where part of these unanswered stories are developed. I love season seven. I think it’s the most emotional of all, and I like to get emotional. When the series became more drama than comedy it gained intensity. Now she needs to take the next step. And there are so many possibilities…I just can’t settle for it if we don’t have a spin-off.
Suzanne, played by Uzo Aduba, had a wonderful growth during the last season, but this only becomes clear in the end. I think her participation could have been better used in the intermediate seasons mainly. At some point if it had been clear to everyone that she was a witness to Piscatella’s murder, her story could have gained even more prominence.

It took me many years to start watching OITNB. The first time I dropped in the second episode, this is because the character Piper was a pain! Very superficial, nothing interesting. The day I got past the Piper stage to understand the context of everything, my life changed. I’ve read that Taylor Schilling isn’t a big fan of Piper’s personality, I agree with her. But this only happened in the beginning, there are many Piper faces, and in the end it seems to me the most interesting of her path. Taylor made many fans love Piper, even for no obvious reason. I can’t imagine anyone who could act so perfectly. Piper was an extremely difficult role.
at the end of season 5, when part of the characters is transferred to Ohio prison, we lose contact with part of the inmates. This could have given some dynamism to season 6, which in my opinion was the worst. Season five had been pure adrenaline. A mind-blowing speed for showing just a few days in an entire season. The sixth could have a similar dynamic, to be more intense. The bus was gone, and we didn’t have any more news until the final scene. It lost its impact, it could have been better used in the plot.
It’s time we had The spin-off of Orange is the New Black
I need to talk a lot about this. The ending of Orange is the New black was created to have a sequel, it’s very clear in every way. I don’t understand the reason for so much silence. If the spin-off is not going to happen, just say so! But everyone is quiet. The more time passes, the number of fans who don’t produce more content about the series increases, they give up, they get discouraged. There are so many ways to keep the show alive and Netflix or Linsgate just doesn’t do it. I think it’s a mistake, a lack of consideration for your audience. I would like to know who actually owns the rights to the series. I read it would be from Lionsgate. Would Lionsgate be responsible for initiating Spin-off production or not? I will give you some very affordable and reasonable alternatives. Make a documentary about the series, make a documentary comparing the series with reality, make a game, make a comic book, yes make a spin-off or more than one that they talk to each other, adapt the book by Cleary Wolters about the story of the real Alex Vause. Now never forget the series. That’s what fans think they’re doing.
